Is Your EV Charger Truly Safe? Why IVY Metering RCDs Are Essential Protection.

Traditional AC leakage current protectors often struggle with the complex waveforms and potential DC leakage currents found in modern applications such as electric vehicle (EV) chargers, photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, and variable speed drives. IVY Metering’s comprehensive range of advanced AC/DC leakage current sensors (RCD/RCM) are essential in the new energy space, where ensuring electrical safety is critical.

The MD Series is ideal for the following applications:

EV Infrastructure: As EV penetration continues to increase, reliable EV infrastructure is essential. The MD Series ensures charging stations operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

IEC Mode 2 and Mode 3 AC Charging Stations: The MD Series meets a wide range of charging needs, providing protection for portable chargers and high-power fixed charging stations. Mode 2 charging stations are often used with earlier portable chargers and high-power charging stations. These charging stations may not have built-in AC and DC fault current protection devices, which can pose a safety risk.

RCD modules help improve safety by monitoring AC and DC residual currents. When ground faults, leakage, or residual currents exceed thresholds, the MD0630 triggers a circuit shutdown to prevent electrical hazards. It complies with the IEC 62752 standard for Mode 2 chargers.

Mode 3 charging stations are used for longer-lasting, higher-power charging setups. While they are typically equipped with Type A RCDs (Residual Current Devices), these devices can miss dangerous DC currents, putting users at risk. The MD0630 module is designed to detect DC residual currents that are missed by Type B RCDs. When the DC fault current exceeds the threshold, it sends a trip signal to the connected switchgear, ensuring user safety and compliance with relevant safety standards. IVY Metering has a rich line of AC/DC RCD/RCM sensors; "there is always one for you".

Designed for accuracy, reliability and compliance, our sensors provide strong protection against AC and dangerous smooth DC leakage currents to protect people and equipment.

Why choose IVY Metering leakage current sensors?

IVY Metering stands out for its cutting-edge technology and application flexibility. Here are some reasons why our sensors are the ideal choice:

· Comprehensive AC and DC detection (Type B/Type B+)

Go beyond basic AC protection. Our sensors accurately detect sinusoidal AC, pulsating DC, and smooth DC leakage currents.

Meet the stringent Type B and Type B+ requirements of standards such as IEC 62955 and IEC 62752, which is critical for applications such as EV charging (Mode 3).

We offer dedicated DC models (such as the MD36DA series) to meet specific DC circuit protection needs (compliant with IEC 62955).

Components certified to UL 2231-2 (CCID20) are available for the North American market (such as the MD20STA-C).

· Unparalleled versatility and customization

A wide range of models: With over 20 different models in our Original, STA, UL, and DC series, we can meet almost any need.

Flexible thresholds: You can choose from default DC 6mA / AC 30mA (settable on some models), fixed thresholds, or custom values to meet specific application criteria.

Various outputs: You can choose from push-pull digital signals or open collector outputs (3-25V) for easy integration with microcontrollers and control systems.

Mounting options: Available in vertical or horizontal mounting configurations with pin or cable terminations. Cable length and connector type (e.g. RJ12) are often customizable.

Communication capabilities: Optional infrared (Modbus) or UART (Modbus) communication protocols are available for real-time monitoring and data logging to enhance system intelligence (e.g., MD0630T01A-3, MD0630T41A-2).

Size options: Available in standard, low-profile, and center-hole models to fit space-constrained designs.

·Reliability and quality assurance

Built-in self-test capabilities: Many models have integrated self-test capabilities to verify operational integrity.

Rugged design: Designed for harsh environments.
