The main components of the electric vehicle charging pile metering system include a bidirectional energy meter, current transformer (CT), leakage current sensor and power module. Electric energy meters measure kilowatt hours consumed or delivered. CTs reduce and isolate the current signal, while leakage sensors detect fault currents. Relays are used to ensure safe switching of circuits. Use a bidirectional meter to measure power flow in both directions during vehicle battery charging and discharging. Meter data is transmitted to the central EV charging station controller and management software via communication protocols such as Modbus. Some of the key specifications to consider when selecting a meter include accuracy, certifications, communication interfaces, surge withstand capabilities, etc. Suitable enclosures, wiring arrangements, CT shorting terminals must be provided.
