Charging of electric vehicles at a standard wall socket or a wall box requires protection devices against DC fault currents to avoid electric shock. Installed type A residual current circuit-breakers (RCCBs) are unable to identify and deactivate DC fault currents. IVY differential current sensors offer the opportunity to save the cost and space for a costly type B RCD in IC-CPD or wall boxes.
MD0630T01A-1 is a differential current sensing leakage sensor specifically developed for EV-charging providing all-current sensitivity. It has the characteristics of accurate measurement, digital output, small size and integration. Which can also be called leakage current sensor, residual current monitor (RCM), residual current device (RCD), differential current sensor, leakage current detector and fault current sensor etc. The sensor can issues an alarm signal in case of hazardous electrical faults (DC and AC) according to IEC 62752, IEC 62955 or IEC 61851-1.

Product Application
Type A RCDs only detect AC residual currents, and need to be used with a DC residual current detector for EV charging. Type B-Tripping is ensured for sinusoidal AC residual currents, alternating residual currents up to 1000Hz, pulsating DC residual currents and for smooth DC residual currents (such as those DC leakage from EVs of >6mA); whether applied suddenly or increasing slowly. The type B Residual Current Monitor (RCM) range is intended for the detection of DC and/or AC residual currents in AC or DC installations of mode2 & mode 3. These RCMs are ideally suited for use with Electric Vehicle charging cables (Mode 2 Protection) and EV charging stations (Mode 3 Protection). Residual current detection options for IEC based requirements are 30mA AC or 6mA DC or both, and are 20mA AC & 6mA DC for UL requirements. No matter you are facing mode 2”IEC 62752 In-cable control and protection device for mode 2 charging of electric road vehicles (IC-CPD)” or mode 3 “IEC 62955 Residual Direct Current Monitoring Device to be used for Mode 3 charging of Electric Vehicle”.
